Many parents don’t like to play teacher at home — well, at least not for science projects. According to them, those are just a reserve of the science teachers and if need be, science tutors. However, today, we hope to change your mind if you fit the description.
Performing science experiments with your kids at home can be a breath of fresh air first because it gets the whole family off the couch and also for the awesome reason that your kids (and you included) get to know something new about life and the planet. Here, are 3 silly science experiments you can consider doing at home with your children.
1. Soda Volcano
With only a pack of mentoes, a large diet coke bottle, and a fierce attitude, you can create a simple soda volcano on your backyard. This is a very simple DIY project. All you do is drop one or more mentoes into a bottle full of diet coke, take a step back and watch the release of carbon dioxide as a result of a chemical reaction between the fizzy drink and the candy.
2. Glass rainbow
If your kids are past the soda volcano stage, you can create a rainbow in glass and show them how much of a genius you are. You need 5 glasses, an assortment of food colorings, sugar, water, and a tablespoon to do this. The method is as follows:
• Line up the glasses and add one tablespoon of water to the first four glasses
• To glass one, add one tablespoon of sugar; to glass two, add two tablespoons of sugar—in that order till the fourth glass.
• Add a different color of the food coloring to each glass
• Pour a quarter of the contents of glass four to glass five.
• Carefully, pour the next layer (glass three) to glass 5 making sure it doesn’t mix with the first layer. The results should be a nice rainbow color.
3. Slime
Making slime is also quite an experience for many kids. Here, you need 2 plastic cups, food coloring, 2 plastic spoons, borax powder, water, and PVA glue.
Mix one tablespoon of borax in water while stirring. Then mix one tablespoon of PVA glue and two tablespoons of water. Add the coloring and stir well. Add one tablespoon of borax into the glue mixture, leave everything for 30 seconds then pick the slime.
AS you can see, these silly science experiments are fun, right? What’s more, they don’t require things that out of the ordinary. Try them today!
