A computer security specialist is responsible for implementing various computer safety programs and practices as required by federal, state, and local regulations. Computer specialists are responsible for analyzing information security policies, procedures, and techniques, protecting business information, investigating and reporting on serious security issues, and suggesting necessary steps to prevent major network and system security threats. Some computer specialists work in Information Technology (IT) departments, assisting Information Technology professionals with security issues.

These “spammers” or “scammers” use many different techniques to get on websites and access a company’s confidential data. The security specialists are tasked with reporting this type of behavior. Computer security specialists work in many different fields. Many work in the Information Technology and Computer Engineering field. These workers analyze network systems and help to secure them. Other specialists in this field specialize in software security, detecting and removing malicious programs, and computer systems security. Some of these workers work for companies that develop computer software, assisting them in creating the software. Many of these workers work for governmental agencies, helping to protect the public network from computer viruses.

There are many career paths within the field. Workers can specialize in many fields, including database management, system support, software design, network security, software implementation, and software maintenance. Computer specialists can work in various areas, including private industry, government, and nonprofit organizations.
