Every year, an increasing number of homeowners are looking to undertake a DIY bathroom upgrade. Bathroom renovations encompass many facets; however, one of the most important is installation of new shower screen panels. Installing a shower panel can appear intimidating at first. But with the right tools, skills and a little elbow grease, you can install your own screens and save some money.
Here’s a DIY guide on how to install shower screens:
1. Gather your tools
You will need the following tools for your project:
• Phillips screwdriver
• Masonry bit
• Drill
• Shims
• Pencil
• Level
• Paper
• Vinyl sweep
• Anchors
• Scissors
• Safety goggles
As safety tip, because o will be working in your bathroom, always strive to ensure that the floor and everything around the site is dry. Don’t forget to wear safety goggles to protect your eyes.
2. Set up and attach the mounting brackets
Now it’s time to set up the mounting brackets. Mark out the centers of each panel on the floor as well as the vertical centerlines on the walls. Mark the screw holes along the center lines on the wall and the floor for the mounting brackets.
Drill 30mm holes into the floor and wall marks you have just made. Shower panels come with plastic plugs which you should insert into each hole. Next, use screws to attach the mounting brackets to the holes while ensuring that the grub screws remain slightly loose to allow installation of the glass panel.
3. Install the fixed shower panel
The shower panel kit includes a fixed panel, door panel and hinge panel. Start by installing the fixed panel first. Position the rubber blocks in front of each bracket then lift the fixed panel carefully into the brackets. If your measurements were well done, this should not be hard. Now tighten the grub screws.
4. Install the hinge shower panel
Follow the same steps in #3 to install the hinge shower panel. If a big gap is left between the fixed and hinge panel, use some silicon to seal it.
5. Install the door panel
At this stage you are almost done. Lift the door panel into the blocks then attach hinges. Check to make sure the gap is even all around then tighten the screws.
Installing shower screen panels is not as hard as it first appears. By following these simple steps, you can install a standard panel in a relatively short time. Of course you can always get the help of a professional installer if any step proves challenging.
