Homemade Carpet Cleaning Ingredients That Are Completely Safe For Your Family

There are numerous perks that we enjoy by having carpets as flooring materials. However, sometimes accidental spills can leave your carpet stained and looking scruffy. When it comes to carpet cleaning Sunshine Coast, there are many commercial cleaners that you can resort to. However, most of them will leave harsh chemical residues that can cause a wide range of chemical hazards to your family.

To help you out, here is a quick list of homemade cleaning solutions that are much cheaper and safer than commercial cleaners:

Baking soda

Baking soda is one of the best ingredients for cleaning urine and vomit stains from your carpet. Pour the baking soda over the stained area and pat with a cloth or paper towel. Allow the mixture to dry completely then vacuum up the residue. Baking soda will clear, sanitize and deodorize the stained spot. Baking soda can also clear grease stains when mixed with equal parts of salt.

Vinegar

Vinegar is potent stain remover and a general cleaning agent. Use the following procedure to clear common stains:

• For light carpet stains, mix 2 tablespoons of table salt with ½ cup of white vinegar. Allow the solution to dry then vacuum.

• For larger stains, mix 2 tablespoons of borax to the above mixture and use the same procedure.

• For tough stains, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of vinegar then rub the mixture on the stain using a dry cloth. Allow the mixture to set for 2 days then vacuum it up.

• For paint, mix ½ tablespoon of white vinegar, 1½ tablespoon of a suitable laundry agent, and 2 cups of water and sponge away the paint. Finally rinse with cold water.

Salt

Depending on the type of stain, salt can be used alone or combined with other homemade carpet stain removers. So, don’t panic if a red wine spills on your carpet. While the wine is still wet, just pout some white wine on it to dilute the color. You can then clean the spot with a towel and water. Sprinkle the stained area with salt and leave it for about 10 minutes. Finally, vacuum up the whole mess. For greasy or more stubborn food stains, mix 1 part of salt with about 4 parts of rubbing alcohol and the rub the mix on the stain then vacuum up.

As you can see, there are simple and readily available ingredients that you can use to get both minor and stubborn stains off your carpet. So, before calling an expensive carpet cleaning Sunshine Coast service, DIY it with these cheap and safe ingredients.
