How To Use Your 3 Gallon Fabric Pots

Fabric pots are fast becoming the preferred soil container among amateur gardeners. These are better than plastic and clay pots in terms of improving root health. With excellent drainage, temperature control, and portability, these fabric bags help urban dwellers start their own gardens and ensure success. Note that these products come in many different sizes. The 3 gallon fabric pots are among the smallest options. Note the following before using it in your project:

Plant

Three gallons is good enough for planting small plants such as pepper and chili. Make sure that you only grow one plant per pot. Of course, there are exceptions such as when you are only planting peas, lettuce, and the like as a couple of them could fit in this container. If you want to plant tomatoes and potatoes, then it’s best to go a size up. A 5-gallon pot will be better for this. You may also cultivate flowering plants, herbs, and other small fruit-bearing trees. A 3 gallon fabric pots is big enough to host a small garden by itself. If you have the space, then you can even order a 100-gallon bag.

Placement

Make sure to place these fabric pots where sunlight can reach them. This is important in photosynthesis, moisture control, and plant disinfection. Outdoor spaces like decks, terraces, patios, and verandas are great options. You can also use a small grow bag near a window. As long as it gets a good amount of light each day, it should have a chance to grow.

Soil Mixture

You don’t need a wide backyard to be able to cultivate a garden. You can use the grow bags by placing a soil mixture in them. The proportions may vary but most experts recommend equal measures of vermiculite, moss, and compost mixture. This should have enough nutrients to feed the needs of the plants. You can add wood chips or saw dust as well. If you are going to reuse the soil mixture, then add a bit of new compost to replenish the nutrients. Empty the bag contents and mix everything well before refilling.

Water

The excellent breathability of fabric pots comes at a cost. The water tends to dry out faster due to evaporation. You need to be more conscious of the moisture content of your soil mix. Increase watering frequency and volume. However, don’t overwhelm the plants with too much water as this might lead to fungal growth. Excess water should drain quickly to prevent this. It can take a bit of trial and error to get the right balance.
