Anybody who has been on the internet in the past decade knows the popularity of funny panda videos. Where did the panda come from, though? Indigenous to central China, the panda bear, also known as a giant panda, is one of the world’s most recognized and beloved of all animals.
The first panda bear to come to the U.S. was named Su Li and she was brought to San Francisco eighty years ago by American socialite, Ruth Harkness. Needless to say, this adorable panda cub sparked a veritable craze for all things panda, though it wasn’t until much later with the advent of the internet that these animals would gain exponentially in popularity in the form of funny panda videos.
Though the panda bear is intelligent and painfully cute, they are indisputably the stars of the internet as evidenced by the proliferation of funny panda videos. Zoo Atlanta, the San Diego Zoo and, perhaps most famously, Smithsonian’s National Zoo, have panda cams set up so that the world can enjoy funny panda videos. Suffice it to say, one would be hard-pressed not to chuckle, if not outright guffaw, at these funny panda videos.

The first is the mama panda dutifully trying to keep her mischievous cub from getting into trouble. Repeatedly, the recalcitrant cub tries to breach the periphery of its confinement, yet Mom patiently keeps gentling dragging him backward by his back paws as the cub claws the ground in defiance. Watching it, one cannot help but laugh.
The second is the sneezing panda. What places this among the best of the funny panda videos is the obvious sense of surprise the bear expresses as if it were its first sneeze, and maybe it was. Let’s hope it was not catching cold! Finally, even the most solemn among us would find themselves chuckling at two pandas playing king of the hill. They each struggle to climb on top of a rock and once one succeeds and the other tries to join him, the one on top repeatedly knocks him down. Maybe they were siblings!
